## What CheckShop is

- A public check of online shops: 25 automated checks on every shop, repeated every week, turned into a score from 0 to 100 and a verdict.
- Checking a shop and reading its profile is free for buyers and needs no account. The paid plans are for shop owners.
- Buyers can read reviews, write a review and report a problem with an order (a dispute) on every shop profile.
- Shop owners can claim their profile, show the trust mark on their own site, collect reviews and answer disputes.
- Every shop is scored by the same rules, with or without a paid plan. Paid plans add tools, such as a badge designer and more review invitations. They do not change how the score is calculated.

## For buyers: how to check a shop

1. Search for the shop's domain on https://checkshop.eu/ or open https://checkshop.eu/shop/<domain> (for example https://checkshop.eu/shop/example.com).
2. Read the verdict at the top, the score from 0 to 100 and the four check groups; each group opens to show every check.
3. A high score is not a guarantee: A score shows what we could see on the day of the check. It is not a guarantee. Pay with buyer protection, such as a credit card, PayPal or Klarna.
4. Had a problem with an order? Open a dispute from the shop's profile with the order details and evidence. The shop is notified and can respond from its dashboard; CheckShop reviews the case, and serious unresolved issues can appear on the public profile. Guide: https://checkshop.eu/disputes

## How shops are checked

The 25 checks fall into four groups. On every shop page you can open each group and see the result of each check.

- Who is behind it (4): Business identity, EU VAT register, Contact details, Domain age. Whether there is a real company behind the shop and whether you can reach it.
- Safety (6): Malware and phishing, SSL certificate, Secure connection (HTTPS), Email and DNS security, Domain risk, Content risk. Whether the site is safe to visit and to pay on.
- Buying and returns (9): Consumer rights information, Return policy, Payment methods, Payment risk, Checkout transparency, Terms and conditions, Privacy policy, Cookie consent, Review integrity. What you need to know before you order: your rights, how you can pay and whether the reviews look genuine.
- Technical details (6): Page speed, Mobile friendly, Search basics, Structured data, Website online, Social media. How well the site is built. Shown for information only: these checks do not change the score.

- Data sources: the shop's own website, the EU VAT register (VIES), Google Web Risk, public domain records, reviews on CheckShop, and the Google rating (shown from 5 reviews, never counted in the score).
- Every shop is checked again every week. The shop page shows the date of the last check. A shop owner can ask for a new check sooner from the dashboard.

## Score, words and verdicts

The score runs from 0 to 100. It is made of six parts, each with a fixed weight. The word depends on the score alone. It is the same word as on the badge shops show on their own site.

- 90–100: "Excellent" (badge colour gold)
- 80–89: "Great" (badge colour gold)
- 70–79: "Good" (badge colour green)
- 50–69: "Average" (badge colour orange)
- 0–49: "Poor" (badge colour red)
- No score yet: "Pending review".

Some findings set a maximum score:
- Google reports malware or phishing, or the home page does not load: at most 25.
- The domain imitates another brand: at most 40.
- Only bank transfer or crypto, with no payment method that offers buyer protection: at most 45.
- The shop gave us a VAT number that the EU register rejects: at most 55.
- Buyer complaints: when 2 or more different buyers report in the last 90 days that an order never arrived, and the shop left the complaint unanswered or it was decided unresolved, the score is capped at 35 (high risk). One such buyer caps it at 55 (caution). Complaints still within the shop's deadline, answered and awaiting a decision, resolved or withdrawn do not count. These are reports from buyers and facts from our checks, not a final judgement. The score is limited while they stand; when the shop responds and the complaints are resolved, the limit is lifted.
- Weak identity, when all four are true: The contact address is a free e-mail address, we could not confirm company details or a VAT number, the domain is less than a year old or its age is unknown, and there are no reviews yet. Together they cap the score at 55.
- What does not count: The Google rating, the average star rating on CheckShop and the technical details group. We show them because they help you, but they say little about whether a shop is safe.

## Reviews

- Review policy and moderation: https://checkshop.eu/review-policy. Reviews are moderated before they are published; invited reviews are linked to an order reference; imported reviews keep their source; suspicious reviews can be held for manual review. Shops can respond to reviews and report reviews that break the policy.
- Owner groups: Shops share reviews when the same account owns them, each domain is verified and they have the same VAT or company number. The checks stay per shop.

## For shop owners: plans and prices

- Free: free, no time limit.
- Starter: €4.99 per month, or €49.90 per year (excl. VAT).
- Pro: €9.99 per month, or €99.90 per year (excl. VAT).
- Business: €24.99 per month, or €249.90 per year (excl. VAT).
- Enterprise: €49.99 per month, or €499.90 per year (excl. VAT).

- Free plan: Your public profile and score, the standard trust mark on your own site, a widget with your latest reviews and 10 review invitations a month. Buyer disputes work on every plan: buyers can report a problem and the shop answers it from its dashboard.
- Paid plans: Adds a badge designer and more review invitations: 25 a month on Starter, unlimited from Pro. Prices excl. VAT.
- Review invitations per month: 10 on Free, 25 on Starter, unlimited from Pro.
- Trial: new customers who buy on the website get the first 7 days free. Monthly plans have no fixed term and can be cancelled anytime; a yearly plan costs 10× the monthly price. When a plan ends, the shop goes back to the free plan. Shops on the Shopify app pay through Shopify instead.

## For shop owners: claiming a profile

- Use an address on your shop's domain, such as info@yourshop.com. You can also sign in with Google Workspace on that domain. We send you a link. Click it and the profile is yours.
- Without an address on the domain: sign in, request a verification code and put it on the site as a meta tag on the home page, as a file under /.well-known, or in the WooCommerce plugin's "Verification code" setting.
- Copy the code from your dashboard into your site. The mark updates itself when your score changes.
