What the shop check looks at
We run 25 checks in four groups. Each one is something you could look up yourself, but it would take you a while.
- Who is behind it: the VAT number on the site, looked up in the EU VIES register, and the contact details
- Safety: whether Google Web Risk reports malware or phishing, and whether the connection is secure
- Buying and returns: return policy, terms, privacy policy and payment methods
- Technical details, plus reviews from CheckShop buyers and the shop's Google rating
When to check a shop
Check before you buy from a shop you have never used, when a price is far below what others charge, or when an ad sends you to a domain you do not know.
How to read the result
The score runs from 0 to 100 and comes with a verdict: Excellent, Great, Good, Average or Poor. If Google reports malware or phishing, the verdict is red whatever the score. A check we could not run is shown as not checked, not as failed.
